A Weekend to Remember

As India take on Pakistan in the finals of the T20 World Cup tomorrow a fifth of humanity will sit riveted to their television sets. I have commented elsewhere how important it is to give youth a chance. The success, fearlessness and drive some of the players have shown in the past few days has been refreshing to see. Rohit Sharma's dismissal of Justin Kemp is a classic case. A brilliant direct hit from Rohit ended Kemp's stay who till then had been South Africa's most prolific scorer for the tournament. It is these moments which turn a game. It isn't really surprising then that the two teams with the lowest mean ages have made the finals of the event.

Its a pity that this wonderful team will be demolished and mutilated to accommodate the Big 3 when they return for the Australia ODIs. Its time to look forward. Invest in the future. For too long we have hung on to hope. Stars are created in the heat of battle not out on the bench. Admittedly T20 is no measure of how a batsman will do in Test match cricket but its well nigh impossible to keep Yuvraj out now. For me his is the 2nd name (after Dravid) I would put into the team when asked to pick the best 6 batsmen for any game.
For now we wait with bated breath for the spectacle to unfold tomorrow.
